Bhū Sūktam is a revered Vedic hymn that extols Mother Earth as Bhūmi, Pṛthivī, Medinī, Vasundharā, and Viṣṇu-Patnī. The text traces its roots to the Taittirīya Saṁhitā (1.5.3) and Taittirīya Brāhmaṇa (3.1.2), while the traditional recitation also incorporates later devotional meditation on Bhū Devī. It beautifully unites Vedic earth-cosmology with the spirit of temple and household worship.
This sacred hymn teaches reverence for the very ground of life. Earth is praised as the vast support of all existence, the mother of beings, the giver of nourishment, the field of sacred action, the abode of fire, and the divine consort of the all-pervading Lord. In a world that often views land merely as property, the Bhū Sūktam restores a timeless vision of Earth as a sacred relationship—one that calls for gratitude, responsibility, and care.
At Prasanthi Nilayam, Bhū Sūktam is traditionally chanted during the Vedam session in Sai Kulwant Hall every Tuesday, allowing devotees to collectively offer their reverence and gratitude to Mother Earth.
